Have you ever heard of the term "Molad"? It's a Hebrew word that means "Birth." Interestingly, it has also become one of the most traditional practices in Egypt, blending social and religious aspects into a unique celebration. During a molad, children play games while adults cook in the streets, and large tents are set up to host people from all over the country. Religious rituals are also an integral part of the celebration, including chanting religious songs ("ebtahlat"), dancing in slow motion with a wavelike motion from left to right, and drumming. In fact, the word "molad" in Egypt has become synonymous with a lively and buzzing atmosphere. Many molads are held throughout the year to celebrate significant figures from Egyptian heritage, but the most important one is the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. You’ve all had a haircut before, many haircuts, in fact. But did you know that local hairdressers and barbershops have a totally different approach to that service you have so far which is considered very standard and almost uninteresting? Trust me on this. You will know as soon as you enter the place. Well if you need a haircut, or just a little trim, join me and I’ll take you to where I usually go!
